First Edition. Printed For Private Circulation. Confederate imprint from Charleston, S.C. Leather bound. Lacking the rear board. Front board and spine have moderate wear and rubbing, front board is purple in color with blind stamped design along the edges. Spine color has faded, gilt title lettering still bright and clear. Gray endpapers. Name is stamped on the first blank page, "S.M. LaBruce", the LaBruce family has been in Georgetown County S.C. since the 1700's. Short inscription is written on the top corner of the title page, likely around the time of publication. No other marks or notations. Text block is solid, all pages present. Pages have varying degrees of foxing, the first pages from the first blank page till Chapter One have some moisture marks along the edges. [viii], 430pp. General Pettigrew died during the Confederate retreat from Pennsylvania following the defeat at Gettysburg, only two years after publication.
