Ed's Editions LLC is a family owned and operated used bookstore in the West Vista area of Columbia, SC. The store is a long time dream of Ed's (hence "Ed's" Editions!!) but has become a decade long reality shared with his wife and business partner, Irene. While he was a student at USC, our son Eric worked part time at the store then moved to China after graduation to teach English for three years. He has returned to the store and now works with Ed full time. Our daughter Jenni has recently joined as a part time employee. Our grandson loves to 'work' at the store too! The store is also home to Solo, our bookstore cat who of course thinks the store really belongs to him! While Eric was in China, our only non-related employee, Bill, came to work part time and became such an integral part of the operation that he kept his place even after Eric returned full time.
The dream of having an authentic used bookstore became a reality on June 26, 2001 when we opened the doors at our current location. For three years prior, we had operated Ed's Editions on a part-time basis at a local antique mall. During our dreaming years, we visited many used bookstores, making notes of what we wanted our store to be like....and the store lives up to all our dreams!! It makes us proud when we overhear our customers say "this is the kind of bookstore I dream of having someday!" Now ten years later, Ed's love for the store is as strong as ever!!
Ed's Editions, where personal service is our motto, is a quaint local used bookstore where browsers are welcomed and customers needed and valued. We cater to book lovers and collectors of all ages - from infancy throughout life. In addition to great quality used and collectible books, the setting itself is very inviting! We are housed in a building that dates back to 1905, and still has the exposed brick walls and tin tiled ceiling. Ed's Editions fills what was once two separate storefronts. In 2001 we originally began on the 406 side of the building and in 2004 expanded to add the 404 side. Our expanded section (opened April 04) was originally a pharmacy, and has a beautiful decorative tile floor through the center section. The ambiance is perfect for a delightful time of browsing and buying used books. We have a current inventory of over 40,000 volumes, with new arrivals added daily. About 70% of our books are hardback, and many are first editions. In 2009 we opened our Rare Book room containing many rare and unique books ranging in value from $100 to $10,000. The store is laid out in an inviting, user-friendly manner with all shelves marked and prices clearly marked on the inside front page of each book. Comfortable chairs are conveniently located throughout the store, plus a hot/cold water cooler stocked with tea bags and instant coffee. In April 2011, we expanded our hours to include evening and Sunday hours. In addition to in-store sales, we do about 30% of our business on line mostly through listings with ABE, Amazon, Alibris and other internet book listing sites.
Ed currently serves as President of the Antiquarian Book Dealer Association of South Carolina (ABDASC) and Ed's Editions is a sponsor and supporter of the Humanities Council of South Carolina's Annual Book Festival.
